Alegra Westphalen, PhD, a fully licensed psychologist is passionate about accompanying children, adolescents, adults, couples and families on their sometimes challenging routes through life.
She has experience in helping patients with mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, personality disorders, eating disorders, developmental disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum, disease management, family and relationship problems.
After completing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology at the University of Plymouth/UK and her Master of Science Degree in Health Psychology at the University of Bath/UK, Dr. Westphalen went on to her PhD at Cardiff University/UK, where she did research on the interacting effects of pubertal timing, family functioning and peer influence on substance abuse in adolescent girls.
After graduation Dr. Westphalen acquired extensive experience in working with children and adolescents in school settings as well as public health settings. She then moved on to working with adults in open and closed wards of psychiatric hospitals as well as psycho-oncological patients and outpatients in rehabilitation.
As a German living in the US Dr. Westphalen understands firsthand the benefits and challenges of multiculturality and is in the rare position of conducting assessments and therapy in English and German.
